About me
PhD in Automation, Control and Robotics in 2006 at Cranfield University in England, with a first degree in Informatics and Applied Mathematics, completed in 2002 at Portucalense Infante Dom Henrique University in Porto – Portugal. Two postdoctoral research projects followed in the field of his PhD focused on automation of rapid prototyping with Metal Arc Welding with titanium alloys and a project related to the torus of the ITER nuclear fusion reactor (2006-2008). Working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Maia (Maia – Portugal) and as Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Minho (Guimarães – Portugal) where the main research is being developed. As a lecturer, 53 different curricular units were taught in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cycles of Higher Education, in the areas of Electrotechnics/Electronics, Computer Science (Cloud Computing, Computer Architecture, Programming, Multimedia, among others), Communications/Telecommunications, Image/Computer Vision and Processing, Signal Processing, IoT/Sensor Networks, Automation, Control, and Robotics. Supervisor of 5 PhD students, 64 Master’s students, 17 Academic Internships and 22 Academic Curricular Projects. Was as a jury member in 3 PhD, 66 Master degrees and 25 Academic Internship defenses. Principal Investigator of a project funded by FCT-Portugal worth €118k and participated as a Researcher/Consultant in other funded projects totaling €9M. Published 75 articles, with 42 indexed in SCOPUS (h-index of 9), h-index of 7 in ISI Web of Science and h-index of 12 in Google. Currently researching Smart Systems such as Artificial Intelligence in Robotics and Computer Vision, IoT, and Mechatronics, the latter focused on developing complex robots from scratch.
