About me
Throughout my career, I have explored the fields of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning, combined with new Information Technologies, both through the advanced use of software and through programming systems and data algorithms in various languages (R, Python, C#). Given my intense collaboration as an Assistant and Adjunct Professor in the areas of Biomathematics, Biostatistics, and Bioinformatics since 2008, in courses and research projects at the ESS-Polytechnic Institute of Porto, I am extremely familiar not only with teaching activities but also with research. I hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, awarded jointly by the Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics, and Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute of the University of Porto, completed in July 2018, focusing on Statistical Modeling, Data Mining, and Machine Learning applied to the Portuguese HIV/AIDS case notification system. I have worked as a Data Scientist on the projects IA.SAE – Artificial Intelligence in Food and Economic Safety and QVida+ – Continuous Estimation of Quality of Life for Effective Clinical Decision Support, funded by Norte2020, at LIACC, where I participated with Post-Doctoral fellowships. I have over 20 peer-reviewed publications (more than 10 in the last 5 years), 9 oral presentations/seminars, and have supervised/co-supervised 11 completed master’s theses and 5 ongoing ones. I would also like to highlight my experience as a monitor at EVMat in 2008 and 2009 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, as well as my experience as a member of the organizing committee of the International Conference ICANN 2007 – 17th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and the Master’s program in Organizational Management at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto.
