Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP). Portuguese representative on the Committee on Digital Economy Policy, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. Director of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Competence Center at the University of Porto. Member of the General Council of the University of Porto and vice-president of the Council of Representatives of FCUP. Develops research activities in the area of IT security, digital identity management, privacy and data protection. He has several scientific publications, supervised several PhD students and participates in several national and international research projects. He is responsible for disciplines and courses in the area of security and his visibility leads him to be periodically invited to national and international television programs and lectures, having already given some invited lectures at events organized by the National Data Protection Commission. Founding partner of three companies HealthySystems (www.hltsys.pt), Adyta (www.adyta.pt) and TekPrivacy (www.tekprivacy.pt) spin-offs from the University of Porto and hosted at UPTec. He is accredited by the National Security Office (GNS) for access to confidential information, regularly collaborates with the GNS, the National Data Protection Commission and the Attorney General’s Office in the area of cybercrime and is an expert at ENISA (European Union Agency for Network and Information Security) in the areas of eID, eGov and eHealth.
