ERS is an independent administrative entity whose mission is to regulate and supervise the activity of all health care establishments. In fulfilling its mission and in accordance with its statutes, ERS collects daily data on the activity of health care providers and users’ perception of the health system. Analysis of the quality of information collected is a critical activity for the ERS and, for this information to be truly useful to the regulatory and supervisory activities of the ERS, it must be properly treated and analyzed. Considering the attributions and powers of ERS in relation to the defense of the legitimate rights and interests of health service users, among the other areas of regulatory intervention, ERS is responsible for assessing complaints about health care providers and monitoring the follow-up provided by them. It is in the context of collecting large volumes of data in this area of complaints, that Artificial Intelligence emerges as an important tool to support analysis and decision making. In this sense, under the SAMA 2020 program, since 2020 ERS, together with FEUP, has been developing a co-financed project, with reference POCI-05-5762-FSE000205, which aims to assess complaints favoring analysis associated with artificial intelligence models.
